GEOMETRY AND PATTERN AND ALGEBRA
As part of our Art inquiry, we are looking into Geometry, and Pattern and Algebra. Here are some photos of us busy learning last week. Karys and Bentley are completing colouring in a complex geometric pattern...

The boys are using shapes to fill in a tan-gram...
Connor and Regan are busy sorting art pictures by their elements...
Connor and Tasman are practising making repeating patterns out of coloured beans. They were able to tell the teachers the rules for these patterns.
For example: the rule for yellow, yellow, blue is AAB.
Ms Palmer was helping to teach the kids all about symmetry. If something is symmetrical, what is on one side is reflected onto the other side. These kids were challenged to make symmetrical pizzas!
The look good enough to eat!
Well done Georgia and Jacob.
Check out Emily's completed pattern picture!
Perfect!
You could help us at home by getting us to use objects around the house to make symmetrical patterns.
For example...

PLAYING SCRABBLE
At Maths time today, some of us played Scrabble. We had to find out how many points each of the words was worth by using strategies such as making groups of 5 or 10 to help us count quicker.
Over the holidays, you might like to play Scrabble with us. It helps us with our Spelling as well as our Maths!

STRATEGY WORKSHOPS
In Maths we have been busy thinking of fancy ways to solve addition problems.
Petra, Jacob L and Charlotte P are using place value to solve equations - they are pretty good at it too!
Liam and Mikaela are using number bonds to solve addition equations.
Keira, Emma L and Emma B are also learning number bonds. They using dominoes to count the two parts to make the whole.
Here's a cool song about number bonds...

NUMBER BONDS
Some of us have been learning about number bonds. Here is a catchy tune to help explain what they are...
You could help us at home by getting us to think of all the diffferent number bonds for a number.
For example: Number bonds for 10 would be:
10+0
9+1
8+2
7+3 etc

We have been working on our improving our Basic Facts.
Here is a photo of some of the kid playing a game called Domino Parking. They need to choose a domino and add the dots together to find our which parking space it needs to be in on the card.
You could help us at home by playing board games with us using two dice! This was we are practising our basic facts AND having fun at the same time!

PLACE VALUE!
Next week we will be starting to learn about Place Value. It is essential that we all INSTANTLY recognise patterns up to ten. This is called Subitizing.
Here are a couple of videos that would help us practise this at home.
Another thing that is great for us to do is play board games with you that use dice.
This involves us recognising the dice patterns and with two dice we have to do a bit of adding as well!
