COOKING FUN!

Mrs Peck wrote us a letter.  She got our stove fixed in our classroom over the holidays so that we can do some cooking!  We LOVE cooking so we are all very eager to get started.

We brainstormed our ideas on a WONDER sheet.  We came up with some good ideas and questions. Some of the children presented their homeroom's ideas back to the rest of the class.

One our the parents in our community dropped us off a HUGE box of paper.
In today's box there were lots of strips of paper so before school we had a go at learning to do some weaving.

HOORAY IT'S A SUNNY DAY ... FINALLY!

Finally the sun came out this week and we got to go outside and EXPLORE our shadows!

We found out that the shadow is on the opposite side of us to the sun.

We drew around our shadows and we measured how long they were.

We had great fun and we hope our shadows enjoyed us playing with them!

We LOVED playing with our shadows.!

KEI TE PEHEA KOE? - HOW ARE YOU?

FUN WITH SHADOWS

We got a letter from our Shadows today!

They are feeling neglected.  They say we do not notice them or play with them anymore.  Our Shadows asked our teachers to help them get us kids to find out all about shadows and how they are made.

First we brainstormed with Mrs Kenyon everything we knew about shadows which was actually quite a lot!  Some of us had a few Wonderings about shadows too.

Then we started to Explore shadows.  Here are a few photos of what we got up to...

We made Puppet Shows using our old data projector.

We made shadow puppets using our hands.

We had to problem solve too.  It was really hard to hold a torch and draw around a toy, so Kyle asked Miharo to help him by holding the torch.  Great problem-solving Kyle.

Emily and Mia worked together to draw around a toy's shadow and then used the blocks to measure how long the shadow was.

Luccas, Ryla and Miyah we investigating what  objects cast a shadow.  Here they are finding out that even a ruler casts a shadow... even though the ruler is transparent.

Conner A and Jacob L found out that they could make shadows on the whiteboard.
Connor B came along and gave it a go too!

WE GOT A LETTER - FROM OUR SHADOWS!

HIGH POWERED MATHS!

There was some pretty fancy Maths taking place in the Jungle today!

Mrs Lunn was helping the children learning about Place Value.

Here is a photo of  Keira explaining how she worked out an answer...

This is Devon practising working out how many dots he has using place value...

And here is Devon explaining the 'rule' he worked out for how he knows about how many groups of ten are in a 2-digit number...

Ethan was doing a bit of teaching today too.
Here he is explaining to the children how he worked out what half of six is...
