MAKE IT MONDAY - Make a toy that moves or makes a noise
We had so much creating our toys yesterday as part of 'Make it Monday'. Children had to make a toy that moved or made a noise. There was a huge variety.
Maarire and Petra made a jack in the box with a puppet.
Devon made a duplicate of his pet cobra.
Charlotte made a flash caravan, with moving wheels, out of a box from her birthday.
Keira and Samantha made a robot, complete with arms.
We had a wonderful afternoon making our recycled toys!

UH OH! WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!
Mrs Lunn counted the instruments in the school and there is not enough for us all to have one in the concert! What will we have have to do? Mrs Lunn thought we would need to cancel the concert since there aren't enough instruments. We said "NOOOOO!"
So Mrs Lunn gave us a chance to come up with a solution to our problem.
We brainstormed lots of different ways for how we could solve our problem.
We came up with some wonderful ideas.
Then we had to reflect on each idea? Was it a good one? We thought about borrowing some instruments, but what if they got broken? We aren't allowed to bring toys to school ... so that idea wouldn't work.
We suggested sharing an instrument or taking turns but that really defeats the the purpose of having everyone in the bad altogether.
Then some people suggested that we MAKE our instruments! What a good idea! Then everyone will be able to play in the band.
Hooray!
Mrs Lunn showed us a slideshow of some amazing ideas we could try. She has uploaded it to the blog so we can have a look at home and have a think about what instrument we would like to make.
Please can you help us have a look at home for some bits and pieces that I could bring to make my instrument with.

COOKING FUN!
Mrs Peck wrote us a letter. She got our stove fixed in our classroom over the holidays so that we can do some cooking! We LOVE cooking so we are all very eager to get started.
We brainstormed our ideas on a WONDER sheet. We came up with some good ideas and questions. Some of the children presented their homeroom's ideas back to the rest of the class.

FUN WITH SHADOWS
We got a letter from our Shadows today!
They are feeling neglected. They say we do not notice them or play with them anymore. Our Shadows asked our teachers to help them get us kids to find out all about shadows and how they are made.
First we brainstormed with Mrs Kenyon everything we knew about shadows which was actually quite a lot! Some of us had a few Wonderings about shadows too.

Then we started to Explore shadows. Here are a few photos of what we got up to...
We made Puppet Shows using our old data projector.

We made shadow puppets using our hands.

We had to problem solve too. It was really hard to hold a torch and draw around a toy, so Kyle asked Miharo to help him by holding the torch. Great problem-solving Kyle.

Emily and Mia worked together to draw around a toy's shadow and then used the blocks to measure how long the shadow was.
Luccas, Ryla and Miyah we investigating what objects cast a shadow. Here they are finding out that even a ruler casts a shadow... even though the ruler is transparent.

Conner A and Jacob L found out that they could make shadows on the whiteboard.
Connor B came along and gave it a go too!

THE RAMP RACE CHALLENGE!
Lightning McQueen wrote us an email! He needs our help to design him a ramp so that he can win a Ramp Race against his friends. We said we'd LOVE to help! There are a few requirements for our ramp design so Mrs Lunn made us some Success Criteria to help keep us on track.
After the teachers read us the email we were HOOKED! Next we had lots to WONDER about. We filled out a Wonder sheet with all the questions we had. We came up with some great questions.
Take a look at these...
